THE LOCATION: YMCA, Washington, DC (1999)
THE PROJECT:Working with a designer to create something that would brighten up the
stairwell leading from the newly renovated locker rooms the indoor
swimming pool three flights down.
THE SOLUTION:Taking reference from the great pool
paintings done by David Hockney, I created the concept of painting a
mural with the poolside and splash on the top level, and the swimmer
underwater on the remaining two lower levels. Judging from the comments
from the extremely athletic patrons of the downtown YMCA,
the painting was a success and has given them a positive boost to their routine.
